Overview of the WAPCo Scholarship for Nigerian Students

WAPCo introduced its Livelihood Program in 2012 for host communities. This was based on the outcome of a study to assess the needs of the community. The program has two components: a scholarship scheme and a community youth enterprise scheme.

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has presented start-up tools to graduates of its Community Youth Enterprise Scheme (CYES) in the Shama District of the Western Region and Tema Manhean/Kpone in the Greater Accra Region. The company also presented scholarship certificates to the 8th batch of scholarship awardees under its Scholarship Scheme.

WAPCo, under its Livelihood Support Programme, offers a Community Youth Enterprise Scheme and a Scholarship Scheme for young people in the communities through which the pipeline passes.

The Community Youth Enterprise Scheme provides basic school leavers in the company’s host communities who could not pursue further studies due to financial constraints the opportunity to learn a trade of their choice in recognized vocational and technical institutions.

Under the Scholarship Scheme, WAPCo sponsored beneficiaries at the tertiary level who are pursuing programs in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, law, social sciences, actuarial science, and mathematics; others have already completed their first-degree programs; and those under the skills acquisition program have set up businesses.

The WAPCO has 108 beneficiaries, of whom 73 have been provided with the tools to start up their businesses. Of course, this can be you too!!!

Programs

Beneficiaries of WAPCo’s scholarship awards at the tertiary level are pursuing programs in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, law, social sciences, actuarial science, and mathematics. Former awardees have completed their first-degree programs.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2023 WAPCo Scholarship

To be eligible for the 2024 WAPCo Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

• Citizenship and Residency
• Academic Status

You must be either:

• A senior secondary school student will receive their WAEC, NECO, or equivalent secondary school leaving certificate in 2023 and will enroll in a Nigerian university in 2023.
• A university student who will continue their undergraduate degree at an accredited Nigerian university in 2023. Areas of study include, but are not limited to, engineering, geosciences, petroleum engineering, and related disciplines.
• Academic Merit
• Financial Need
• Leadership and Community Service

Application Materials

Submit the following materials:

• A completed online application form with personal information, university details, and an essay explaining your academic and career goals.
• Official university transcripts for all previous academic work. Unofficial or incomplete transcripts will not be accepted.
• Two letters of recommendation from professors who can speak to your academic abilities and potential. Ask them to upload the letters directly to your online application.
• A resume or CV outlining your relevant experience, skills, accomplishments, and interests.

Deadline

The application deadline for the 2024 WAPCo Scholarship is December 31, 2023, at 11:59 PM GMT. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered under any circumstances. It is recommended that you submit your application in advance of the deadline in case you encounter any issues. Notification of awards will be sent via email and published on the WAPCo Scholarship website by March 31, 2023.
